The exhibit After Strand by Qu\u00e9bec photographer Bertrand Carri\u00e8re will be presented at Mus\u00e9e de la Gasp\u00e9sie in the town of Gasp\u00e9 from August 21 to November 1, 2015.<\/p>\n
The project After Strand takes as its starting point American photographer Paul Strand\u2019s work in the Gasp\u00e9 in 1929 and 1936. During those trips, Strand passed the summer in the territory, making a tour of the peninsula with his wife. His picture-taking was motivated by the desire to work on vaster spaces than he was used to dealing with. In these great spaces he searched for a form of unity involving all the elements that went into them, from the foreground to the background and even in the quality of the clouds in the skies that he photographed.<\/p>\n
The pictures taken by Bertrand Carri\u00e8re are mostly landscapes and architectural views, but include portraits as well. They were done in color to create a distance between his own body of work and that of Strand, and to remain faithful to his own artistic approach. \u201cIn continuity with Strand\u2019s thinking,\u201d he explains, \u201cI wanted to offer my vision of the essential character of what the Gasp\u00e9 is today.\u201d<\/p>\n
